Why you should wear sunscreen every day
The sun emits two types of UV rays: UVA and UVB. The latter causes visible damage (sunburn, redness and inflammation) on the skin’s surface, while the former can affect skin cells, damaging elastic fibers and collagen levels, and accelerating the development of signs of aging (wrinkles and fine lines).
What is SPF and what does SPF stand for?
SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. The number refers to the amount of time skin can be exposed to the sun without burning, relative to applying no sun protection. When wearing SPF 30, for example, skin would theoretically take 30 times longer to redden than if no sunscreen had been applied. However, sunscreen should still be applied regularly every 2 hours to help keep skin protected.
